저널기사 Preparation of Sulfur-Quinone Polyurethanes and Their Use to Inhibit the Corrosion of Iron Particles - A sulfur-quinone diol monomer, 2,5-bis-(2-hydroxyethylthio)-1,4-benzoquinone (SQM-2), was prepared by the reaction of 2-mercaptoethanol with benzoquinone. SQM-2 and polycaprolactone diol (number-average molecular weight = 1250) were condensed with toluene diisocyanate to give sulfur-quinone polyurethanes. Two compositions were prepared, SQPU-1 containing 7 mol % SQM-2 and SQPU-2 containing 35 mol % SQM-2. These thermoplastic polyurethanes were soluble in solvents used in magnetic tape coating processes. The polymers were used to prepare magnetic coatings containing state-of-the-art commercial iron particles. The sulfur-quinone polyurethanes protected the iron particles against corrosion from a pH 2.0 aqueous buffer/ 미리보기

저널기사 Amine-Quinone Polyurethanes Containing N-Alkylated Amine-Quinone Monomers - A series of amine-quinone diol monomers, containing the 2,5-diamino-1,4-benzoquinone group, were synthesized where the alkyl group on the amine was varied from methyl to ethyl to n-propyl. Polyurethanes were prepared from these monomers by condensation polymerization in N,N-dimethylformamide solution with toluene diiscyanate and poly(tetrahydrofuran) diol (Mn = 650). These amine-quinone polyurethanes were used as binders in metal particle tape. Samples were exposed to pH 2.0 aqueous buffer and the all amine-quinone polymers were shown to be superior in their ability to protect the iron particle against corrosion, relative to the commercial binders. There was no significant difference in the ability of the three amine-quinone polymers to inhibit corrosion. Clearly the increasing the steric bulk at the nitrogen did not affect their ability to inihibit corrosion/ 미리보기

저널기사 Evolution of Molecular Weight Distributions in the Catalytic Chain Transfer Polymerization of Methyl Methacrylate up to High Monomer Conversions - The evolution of molecular weight distributions (MWDs) with monomer conversion in the catalytic chain transfer (CCT) polymerization of methyl methacrylate at 60 (degree)C is investigated by simulation (via the program package PREDICI(R)) and experiment. The small shifts seen in the MWD toward lower molecular weights with increasing monomer conversion are shown to be of the same order of magnitude as the associated changes in the MWD in non-CCT controlled free-radical polymerization, indicating that no significant change in the MWD with monomer conversion is associated with the CCT process/ 미리보기

저널기사 Controlled Radical Polymerization of 1,3-Butadiene. II. Initiation by Hydrogen Peroxide and Reversible Termination by TEMPO - The radical polymerization of 1,3-butadiene initiated by hydrogen peroxide and controlled by TEMPO (T) was investigated, leading in a further step to controlled telechelic oligobutadienic diols of polydispersities as narrow as 1.04, as follows/ 미리보기

저널기사 Fluorocarbon-Ended Polymers: Metal Catalyzed Radical and Living Radical Polymerizations Initiated by Perfluoroalkylsulfonyl Halides - Perfluoroalkylsulfonyl halides initiate the metal catalyzed living radical polymerization of styrene and methyl methacrylate with loss of SO2. Both polymers contain perfluoroalkyl chain ends. The radical copolymerization of tetrafluoroethylene with hexafluoropropylene initiated with perfluoroalkylsulfonyl halides in catalyzed by both metal halides and metal zero from the reactor walls/ 미리보기

저널기사 The Effect of Oxygen on the Three-Component Radical Photoinitiator System: Methylene Blue, N-Methyl-diethanolamine, and Diphenyliodonium Chloride - In this article, we extend our mechanistic study of the three-component radical photoinitiator system, consisting of methylene blue (MB), N-methyldiethanolamine, and diphenyliodonium chloride, by investigating the influence of oxygen on the rate of the consumption of MB dye. We used time-resolved steady-state fluorescence monitoring to observe the MB concentration in situ in both a constant oxygen environment and a sealed reactor as the dye is consumed via photoreaction. In the sealed reactor, we observed a retardation period (attributed to the presence of oxygen) followed by rapid exponential decay of the MB fluorescence after the oxygen was depleted. On the basis of the impact of the amine and iodonium concentrations on the fluorescence intensity and the duration of the retardation period, we propose the mechanism given in the figure to t 미리보기
