Cochrane Paper - Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs for Low Back Pain: A Systematic Review Within the Framework of the Cochrane Collaboration Back Review Group - Because nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are effective for acute low back pain, they are the most frequently prescribed medications for this condition worldwide. This study found that nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are effective for short-term symptomatic relief in patients with low back pain. The findings also showed that nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are not more effective than other drugs (paracetamol, narcotic analgesics, and muscle relaxants). However, the quality of these studies was poor, so the findings are not conclusive.
