Biomechanics - A Biomechanical Comparison of Modern Anterior and Posterior Plate Fixation of the Cervical Spine - This study investigated the relative rigidity provided by anterior, posterior, or combined fixation in a flexion-distraction and a burst injury model using cadaveric spines. It was concluded that the posterior plating with lateral mass screws and interbody grafting is biomechanically superior to the anterior plating with locked fixation screws in the surgical treatment of 1-level flexion-distraction or burst injury./
