CLINICAL INVESTIGATIONS - Changes in Blood Volume and Hematocrit during Acute Preoperative Volume Loading with 5% Albumin or 6% Hetastarch Solutions in Patients before Radical Hysterectomy - Using the double-label technique, as the sum of plasma volume (indocyanine green dilution technique) and erythrocyte volume (labeling erythrocytes with fluorescein), blood volume was measured before and 30 min after acute preoperative volume loading with 20 ml/kg of two different colloid solutions at a rate of 90 ml/kg in 20 patients with carcinoma of the cervix. Thirty minutes after the infusion of 1,379 (plus/minus) 128 ml of 5% human albumin (group I; n = 10) or 1,417 (plus/minus) 209 ml of 6% hetastarch solution (group II; n = 10), blood volume was only 524 (plus/minus) 328 ml (group I) and 603 (plus/minus) 314 ml (group II) higher than before volume loading./
