SCIENTIFIC PAPERS - Two-Stage Hepatectomy: A Planned Strategy to Treat Irresectable Liver Tumors - In two-stage hepatectomy, one lobe is cleared of metastases by an initial noncurative resection. Regeneration increases the residual liver parenchyma, permitting a curative second-stage resection with an adequate residual remnant. Chemotherapy and percutaneous local destruction are used as required. This technique offers the chance of curative resection to more patients with conventionally irresectable hepatic colorectal metastases./
