ORIGINAL ARTICLES - Serum Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Predicts Venous Invasion in Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Prospective Study - A prospective study was conducted to evaluate the correlation between preoperative serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) level and the clinicopathologic features in 100 patients undergoing resection of hepatocellular carcinoma. A high preoperative serum VEGF level was found to be an independent factor predictive of microscopic venous invasion. This study suggests that serum VEGF may be a clinically useful biological marker of tumor invasiveness in hepatocellular carcinoma./
