Current Approach to Peripheral Arterial Sonography - Color and pulsed imaging play important roles for noninvasively evaluating lower extremity arterial occlusive disease. In conjunction with indirect arterial tests, ultrasound is used to screen for lower extremity disease. It provides not only specific information regarding location, severity, and frequency of disease, but also determines the optimal therapeutic approach before more invasive procedures. Ultrasound is also useful for graft surveillance and to identify flow-reducing lesions that lead to bypass failure. New techniques, including ultrasound contrast agents, three-dimensional, and B-flow imaging, have great potential to further improve the diagnostic capability of ultrasound./
