저널기사 Reaction of p-Toluenesulfonyl Isocyanate with Polymers Having Amide Moieties and Hydrolysis of the Obtained Polymers - The chemical modification of polymers having amide moieties was carried out with p-toluensulfonyl isocyanate. The resulting polymers revealed high hydrolytic character. For example, poly(acrylamide) was refluxed with an excess amount of p-toluenesulfonyl isocyanate in THF for 50 h to obtain a structurally modified polymer in 76% yield, whose sulfonylurea functionality was 100%. The resulting polymer was subjected to hydrolysis in a 1 M NaOH solution at 50 (degree)C to convert 90% of the sulfonylurea in the side chain to the carboxylic acid moieties/ 미리보기

저널기사 Solid-Phase Thermal Polymerization of Macrocyclic Ethylene Terephthalate Dimer Using Various Transesterification Catalysts - Solid-phase thermal ring-opening polymerization of macrocyclic ethylene terephthalate dimer with and without catalyst was investigated for the first time. 1,3-Dichloro-1,1,3,3-tetrabutyldistannoxane exhibited the highest catalytic activity, and a colorless polymer with a weight-average molecular weight of 36,100 was obtained in 100% yields by heating for 3 min at 200(degree) C/ 미리보기

저널기사 Wavelength-Selected Radiothermoluminescence of Polyethylene Doped with Pyrene - Radioluminescence from electron-irradiated polyethylene doped with pyrene was investigated in the temperature range of 77-273 K. The spectra of emitted light were recorded and temperature dependences of radioluminescence intensities at chosen wavelengths were examined using a wavelength selected radiothermoluminescence technique. The experimental results were explained in terms of an electron-solute radical cation and solute radical ions recombination. Pyrene-excimer emission was observed in the glass transition temperature range of the polyethylene matrix/ 미리보기

저널기사 Sulfonated Polyanilines Prepared by Copolymerization of 3-Aminobenzenesulfonic Acid and Aniline: The Effect of Reaction Conditions on Polymer Properties - Sulfonated polyanilines (SPANs) with a degree of sulfonation up to 40% were prepared by the chemical copolymerization of 3-aminobenzenesulfonic acid (metanilic acid (MA)) and aniline. The oxidation state of the SPAN samples, as determined from ultraviolet-visible spectra, was inversely proportional to the degree of sulfonation; that is, the higher the content of MA units in the copolymer was, the more reduced the oxidation state was. This means that the highly sulfonated SPAN samples were in a state closer to a leuccoemeraldine base, which was also confirmed by 13C NMR spectra of SPAN emeraldine and leucoemeraldine forms/ 미리보기

저널기사 Pore Size in One-Step Swelling and Polymerization of Monodisperse Polymer Beads - The pore size increases as the swelling ratio decreases; when a good solvent is used as the porogen the pore size increases with the crosslinking monomer content; and at high crosslinking monomer content the pore size does not depend on the porogen solubility. The effects are discussed in terms of polymer miscibility, including the phase separation between seed and bead polymers/ 미리보기

저널기사 Composition Control of Copolymer in Semibatch Emulsion Copolymerization. II. MMA/Styrene/BMA Three-Component System - In this study, polymers of the MMA/Styrene/BMA three-component system were synthesized through either soapless semibatch emulsion copolymerization or soapless batch emulsion copolymerization technique. The optimal monomer feed flow rate was determined from the interphase partition laws, monomer reactivity ratios, and three or four times of iterative experimental procedures through semibatch emulsion copolymerization. As a result, the instantaneous composition of polymers could also be effectively controlled to get the desired final products/ 미리보기

저널기사 Preparation of Phenol Formaldehyde Resins Containing Pendant Isoimides and Their Isomerization to Stable Resins - Aminophenols were allowed to react with maleic and phthalic anhydrides, producing high yields of the corresponding N-(hydroxyphenyl) maleamic and phthalamic acids, respectively. The amic acids were dehydrated to the corresponding maleisoimides and phthalisoimides with N,N-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide or ethyl chloroformate as the dehydrating agent. Formaldehyde was allowed to react with the products in the presence of an acid catalyst, and novel phenol formaldehyde resins (Novolac-like) were produced. The resins on treatment with a sodium carbonate solution or on prolonged heating at 50 (degree)C suffered rearrangement to corresponding phenol formaldehyde resins with pendant imides. This rearrangement was accompanied by an increase in the softening point and thermal stability/ 미리보기
