HIGHLIGHT - Head-to-Head Polymers - Published online 26 September 2000 - Head-to-head (H-H) polymers of polyolefins, poly(vinyl halides), and polyacrylates were synthesized and characterized. They had properties that were both similar to and different from those of normal head-to-tail (H-T) polymers. Their mechanical, spectral, thermal, and degradation behaviors were studied and compared with those of traditional H-T polymers. Blends of H-H polymers were also studied, and the properties of H-H blends were compared with those of H-T blends./

HIGHLIGHTS - Anionic Polymerization: High Vacuum Techniques - High vacuum technique is a very important part for the realization of the synthetic strategy leading to well-defined macromolecules by anionic polymerization. In this Highlight the glass apparatuses and reactors, used for purification of reagents and reactions, as well as the high vacuum methodology are described. A few examples concerning the synthesis of model polymers with complex architectures are also presented/

HIGHLIGHTS - From Telomerization to Living Radical Polymerization - A brief description of the various methods of telomerization by the radical and redox methods is given. Chain lengths and functionality are deeply related to kinetics laws, permitting a good control of oligomer architecture. The introduction of end groups enables, for the first time, the chemical functionalization of oligomers. More recently, these groups (thiuram, xanthogen halogens complexed by various metals, iodine, diphenylmethane, etc.) have been used to reinitiate polymerization, leading to real living polymerization/
