64 저널기사 Coverage of Skull Base Defects - Successful reconstruction of the cranial base requires a knowledge of this complex anatomic area, a careful assessment of the defect, a healthy respect for the potential for ascending infection and meningitis, and reliable techniques to effectively contain the intracranial space with vascularized tissue. The first step in reconstruction is a secure dural repair, which must be covered by a healthy vascularized layer. The scalp contains galeal and pericranial flaps, which are usually incorporated into the reconstruction. Sometimes, along with local muscles such as the temporalis, these local tissues are all that is needed to complete the reconstruction. When the defects are larger and in irradiated beds, free tissue transfer has emerged as the most reliable method to bolster the dural repair./ 미리보기

65 저널기사 CT and MR Imaging Evaluation of Neck Infections with Clinical Correlations - Infection of the neck is a common clinical problem in all age groups, especially children and young adults. The clinical symptoms and signs are often suggestive of the diagnosis. Imaging studies including CT and MR imaging are frequently required to confirm the diagnosis but more importantly to localize the infectious process and search for and delineate an abscess cavity. Ultrasound has also been used in the evaluation of superficial neck infections, especially to determine fluid accumulation. Conventional films consisting of an anteroposterior and lateral view were the examination before the introduction of CT in 1972. Conventional films can still be used for a preliminary survey, especially of the retropharyngeal space when there is a question of a retropharyngeal phlegmon or abscess./ 미리보기

77 저널기사 Current Approach to Peripheral Arterial Sonography - Color and pulsed imaging play important roles for noninvasively evaluating lower extremity arterial occlusive disease. In conjunction with indirect arterial tests, ultrasound is used to screen for lower extremity disease. It provides not only specific information regarding location, severity, and frequency of disease, but also determines the optimal therapeutic approach before more invasive procedures. Ultrasound is also useful for graft surveillance and to identify flow-reducing lesions that lead to bypass failure. New techniques, including ultrasound contrast agents, three-dimensional, and B-flow imaging, have great potential to further improve the diagnostic capability of ultrasound./ 미리보기

80 저널기사 Current Status of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Endoscopic Ultrasonography - Endoscopic ultrasonography was developed out of desire to overcome several limitations of standard ultrasound imaging. Placement of the ultrasound transducer within the body allows the examiner to avoid interference from air-filled or body structure and allows the use of higher frequency and higher resolution ultrasound. Endoscopic ultrasonography has become a valuable tool in the evolution of malignant and nonmalignant disorders of the pancreas, gastrointestinal tract, hepatobiliary system, and mediastinum. This imaging modality will assume a more prominent role in the near future as access to training and equipment increases./ 미리보기
