CLINICAL CONCEPTS AND COMMENTARY - Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia/Cardiomyopathy - Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia is an inherited condition characterized by replacement of myocardial tissue by fat and fibrous tissue with a wide spectrum of clinical presentations, including mechanical dysfunction and various forms of ventricular arrhythmias. It is a cause of sudden death, mostly in young people and in athletes. In most cases, arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia can be controlled by pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic therapies./

CLINICAL CONCEPTS AND COMMENTARY - Monitoring Depth of Anesthesia: With Emphasis on the Application of the Bispectral Index and the Middle Latency Auditory Evoked Response to the Prevention of Recall - Of the methods used to assess depth of anesthesia with a view to preventing intraoperative awareness, the Bispectral Index and the middle latency auditory evoked response show the greatest promise. The available information suggests that the middle latency auditory evoked response, for which there is no commercially available recording device, has the better sensitivity and specificity at the interface between unconsciousness and awareness/

CLINICAL CONCEPTS AND COMMENTARY - Preemptive Analgesia - A narrow definition of preemptive analgesia that excludes the initial postoperative period leads to a belief that this concept is clinically meaningless. Preemptive analgesia that extends into the initial postoperative period might be more effective in the treatment of postoperative pain./
