GENERAL ARTICLES - Anatomic Relations Between the Cephalic Vein and the Sensory Branches of the Radial Nerve: How Can Nerve Lesions During Vein Puncture Be Prevented? - IMPLICATIONS: We attempted to determine the relationship between the cephalic vein and the sensory branch of the radial nerve at the wrist to help prevent lesions of the radial nerve when the cephalic vein is cannulated. We examined the anatomy of 33 postmortem specimens and suggest that puncture of the cephalic vein 12 cm or more proximal to the styloid process can prevent radial nerve lesions./

GENERAL ARTICLES - Balloon Versus Conventional Laryngoscopy: A Comparison of Laryngoscopic Findings and Intubation Difficulty - IMPLICATIONS: The results of this study show that balloon-assisted laryngoscopy facilitates the airway management of elective surgery patients by providing greater laryngeal exposure than conventional laryngoscopy. Thus, the routine use of a curved blade carrying the inflatable balloon of a 6F Fogarty catheter on its distal end is recommended./

GENERAL ARTICLES - Blockage of One Class of Potassium Channel Alters the Effectiveness of Halothane in a Brain Circuit of Drosophila - IMPLICATIONS: Shaker channels are important elements during halothane inhibition of a specific reflex in Drosophila. Neurons that express these channels, which are irregularly distributed in the brain of flies, provide promising leads to identifying anesthetic-sensitive components./

GENERAL ARTICLES - Carbon Monoxide Formation in Dry Soda Lime is Prolonged at Low Gas Flow - IMPLICATIONS: CO formation from isoflurane degradation in dry soda lime was determined at different rates of test gas flow. The duration and, in the presence of CO2, the total amount of CO formation were inversely related to the flow rate./

GENERAL ARTICLES - Colforsin Daropate Improves Contractility in Fatigued Canine Diaphragm - IMPLICATIONS: Diaphragmatic fatigue is implicated as a cause of respiratory failure in normal subjects and in patients with chronic obstructive lung disease. Colforsin daropate improves contractile properties during diaphragmatic fatigue./

GENERAL ARTICLES - Diaphragm Movement Before and After Cholecystectomy: A Sonographic Study - IMPLICATIONS: Cholecystectomy at times results in impaired respiratory and diaphragmatic functions. The techniques currently used to study these repercussions are both laborious and invasive. Our sonographic technique is completely noninvasive and can be used to study diaphragm morphology and movement in real time./
